Blu-ray Disc Technology:
Since Sony and Philips developed music CD format in 1982, Sony has been a leading company of optical disc media formats. Following this tradition, Sony has significantly contributed to create the Blu-ray Disc format.
Blu-ray Disc was especially developed to satisfy growing demands for High Definition quality movies and content. The format delivers unsurpassed picture and uncompressed audio quality beyond anything available on DVD; bringing the movie theater experience into your home.
Due to the huge capacity of up to 50GB, there is room for approximately seven hours of the High Definition quality video, depending on the encoding method. Blu-ray Disc allows for more than just movies to be stored in the absolute best High Definition quality; it's also for music, games and interactive features.
Phase Transition Mastering Technology:
Since a Blu-ray Disc has 5 times larger capacity than DVD, it requires much smaller pits on the disc. Therefore, the current DVD mastering technology is not compatible for use in Blu-ray disc.
Sony's groundbreaking Phase Transition Mastering (PTM) technologies enable such fine pits, using a blue laser heat chemical reaction. The PTM system, PTR-3000 has brought significantly increased reliability as well as low cost operation, reducing the mastering process from 11 to 5 steps.
PID (Postscribed ID™):
PID is a unique technology that is the additional inscription of a unique ID onto a CD/DVD-ROM's signal surface after the stamping process at the disc plant. It enables a unique and innovative one-to-one marketing solution which connects existing off-line digital media directly with specific websites on the internet.
